Niagara Wine Review: Lakeview Cellars Reserve Syrah 2007

Lakeview Cellars wines

Lakeview Cellars
Niagara-on-the Lake, Ontario

Reserve Syrah 2007
Niagara Peninsula VQA

$19.95 LCBO and winery

Tasting Note:

2007 was one of Niagara’s best vintages for red wines and Lakeview’s Reserve Syrah helps prove this point. This is a rich, full bodied spicy syrah that can compete on flavour and aroma with many wines in the $20-30 range. It has a nose of blueberry, coffee and dark chocolate. The palate is black pepper, anise and stewed blueberry with a medium to long finish. Tannins are mid-range, which makes this a versatile wine for sipping or pairing with food. This wine is under-priced for the quality. If you can, track this one down at your LCBO, or order a bottle at your local LCBO customer service desk.

  1. The 2007 Syrahs from Niagara are rare. Thanks for the suggestion. The 2007 Reserve Syrah from the small Kacaba Vineyard was spectacular. It was best red wine in Canada in 2010. I bought a few for $70 and still have one waiting. I’ll be looking for the Lakeview Cellars Syrah this weekend.
