Niagara Sparkling Wines for Canada Day

ChampagneThere’s always room for sparkling wine in a celebration. Several wineries in Niagara Wine Country offer refreshing bubbly to accompany your 2012 Canada Day. If you can make it to Niagara this weekend, many of the wineries are putting on events for the long weekend in addition to their regular wine room tastings. Here are few that offer crisp sparkling wine and Canada Day fun:

Featherstone Estate 2008 Premium Cuvée “Joy”

This winery, near Vineland, Ontario, is hosting a special tasting this long weekend of their sparkling wine. With only 112 produced, this is a unique chance to try the chardonnay-based wine, which is made according to the traditional French method.

Flat Rock Cellars 2008 Riddled Sparkling

Flat Rock’s offering is a blend of 71% chardonnay and 29% pinot noir. The winery describes it as a balance between lemon curd, lime and green apple fruit notes and a toastiness imparted by secondary fermentation. All Flat Rock wines come with Stelvin® screwcaps, which gives the bottle of “Riddled Sparkling” a novel look. At 343 cases produced, this is another special buy that’s fit for Canada Day celebrations.

Fielding Estate Winery Sparkling Riesling

Ontario is arguably best known for its quality Rieslings. Fielding produces this riesling sparkling using the Italian Charmat Method. As done with the making of prosecco, all charmat method wines are fermented in stainless steel and bottled under pressure. Fielding Estates describes its sparkling as green apple and peach on the nose with a long, refreshing lemon finish. Perfect for this upcoming steamy weekend in Ontario.
